In HUTAN, you have a completely different atmosphere and structure of Play. Just imagine a jungle where you have your own balanced, dense, interdependent ecosystem. You plant flowers and trees that flourish, and the environment becomes a fully substantiated habitat.
The game is played over nine rounds. The goal of the game is to quickly, yet carefully, fill the area tiles with your personal rainforests, abundant with flowers and trees.
As the game progresses, a forest animal can wander in, such as the orangutan, Sumatran tiger, rhinoceros, hornbill, cassowary, or Sumatran rhino.
Strategize, Be Expedient, Yet Cautious
Your objective is to cover those tiles as fast as you can, but you must remember not to bungle in the jungle! That can result in negative points. The flowers you plant on each of the four double-sided tiles in the game must be touching each other or stacked.
You’re not only placing flowers adjacent to each other, but you can also overlap them. When you intend to place a flower on top of one that it matches, you place a tree there, instead!

If a player grows the last tree in a region, it morphs into an animal! This, in turn, initiates additional trees to grow when placed, helping you reach your goal of filling your panel.
You have to remember that all of this is so easy, yet it is easy to bungle in the jungle until you become more aware of how to build your scenario first.
Consumer Hands-On Evaluation
Hutan presented a unique situation for our consumer hands-on evaluation. Unlike most games, it has several component sheets that you must carefully punch out.
After being removed from the sheets, the trees require assembly. Then you have to punch out the Play tiles and assemble the pieces for the game box, as specified in the instructions.

All of the players had the same feedback. They enjoyed how quick it was to learn, how it enabled a developmental strategy, and how they became more skilled in their games the more they played. Unpredictability was a common denominator.
