The PlayStation 5 (PS5) is Sony's powerful ninth-generation home video game console, featuring a custom AMD CPU/GPU for fast loading, ray tracing for realistic graphics, 4K/120Hz support, and the immersive Tempest 3D AudioTech, all controlled with the innovative DualSense controller offering haptic feedback and adaptive triggers for deeper immersion. This version comes in disc Edition, focusing on lightning-fast SSD storage, backward compatibility, and next-gen gameplay experiences.
Although this system was submitted for review well after its original launch, its value and benefits remain the same; this game console is an entertainment solution like no other. In our evaluation, we tested the PS5 using a variety of methods, including adding an external SSD and running it for repetitive 12-hour segments of nonstop gameplay. There wasn't the slightest hint of failure or underperformance.
The Basics
Disc: 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray | Storage: 1TB SSD CPU: 3.5GHz, 8-core AMD Zen 2 GPU: 10.3 teraflop RDNA 2 GPU | Memory: 16GB Ports:2 — USB-C, 2 — USB 3.1, 1 — Ethernet, 1 — HDMI
Pushing The Limits
After testing over 47 games on both PS4 and PS5, the graphics clarity, audio reproduction, and overall operation were flawless. Whether the sound came through an 80 " Sony Bravia QLED or the INZONE H9 II wireless noise-cancelling gaming headset, it was crystal clear and kept our players in the action with a sense of surround sound.
What impressed us most was playing Diablo IV, Resident Evil Village, and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War using the DualSense Edge Wireless controller. Our gamers pushed the controller and system to the limits, pushing the envelope of what was possible beyond standard reason.
Overall Console Details
Despite the abuse and extensive hours of Play per game, the PS5 was a true champion, never underperforming regardless of how much it was used.
The console itself is a masterpiece of design, especially for mounting it on a wall beneath a flat screen TV. An important detail for some players is noise. Well, this is where it gets interesting. When a game disc is inserted into the Blu-ray player, there is less noise than you hear with a refrigerator! You wait a few moments for the loading screen and then proceed into the game. But this is where we discovered how spoiled we have become with high-speed internet access.
It appears we have become so accustomed to our fibre-optic network speeds that waiting for a game CD to load is difficult to tolerate! This leads us to recommend that if you are going to purchase a PS5, opt not to get it with the disc drive. That's an added expense that has become a has-been item.
Game Performance
Altogether, when doing a comparative review of a PS4 vs the new PS5 in-game performance, there was a significant shift well beyond what we have known for so long with the PS4.
Performance of all games tested has improved far beyond what was expected. Considering the use of an SSD drive now, the games are played at a much faster rate of speed with no hiccups or aberrations. When using a headset, you are literally in the game, feeling the action as you battle your opponents. We ran through a wide range of game genres with the same results: nothing but the very best, and our gamers gave every game a 5-star rating.
The Dual Sense Wireless Controller
The Dualsense wireless controller truly proved its worth, and the performance proved the Sony pitch about how great it was to be an unquestionable fact. It was by far the very best controller I have used to date, and all of our testing gamers fully agreed. The controller provides exactly as claimed, varying levels of force and tension as you get into your games. As stated on the PlayStation website, you literally feel yourself pulled into your game, feeling physically connected to your on-screen actions. The controller includes a speaker, a microphone, and a headphone jack.
Our testing gamers enjoyed being able to connect two DualSense wireless controllers to the PS5 simultaneously without any issues. Their competitive natures were given the opportunity to be a part of the game practically as much as they experienced with the 3D-experience.
The Final Word
In our study and evaluation of the PS5, it was found to make a substantial contribution to STEM value. Communication, interactive response, narrative progression, and the overall influence of critical skill development on players were absolute.
As we close this review, although the PS5 was not used for any electronic learning games, the level of stimulation to the human brain is astounding! From personal interaction with others to the stimulation of quick decision-making while controlling multiple functions of the wireless controller at once, this clearly demonstrates its contribution to critical skill development and STEM value. The PS5 passed our strict evaluation and met the criteria to become a recipient of The Toy Man® Seal of Approval.
